Firmware 1.3 with multitimbrality is finally out! It was in the end a bit of a crunch to locate all the bugs, take them carefully out of our code, and release them to the wild with a stern warning never to return to our codebase (we don’t hurt anyone, not even bugs), but it’s done now. Big thanks again to all the beta testers, the firmware is so much better because of you!
Part copy paste was unfortunately left out, since that would have taken some time more, and we felt there was so much new ground to explore with all the new features introduced in this update that we wanted to get it out there. Part copy paste is scheduled for firmware 1.4.
Speaking of which: work on firmware 1.4 is already underway. As I write this, I just submitted a pull request with a proof-of-concept MPE implementation, which basically supports pitch bend per note. Other per note controllers, i.e. aftertouch, “y axis” (CC74) and more are now easy to support, but there’s still quite some work to make sure all the nuances of the MPE spec are correctly implemented. Therein lie devious corner cases!
Other features planned for 1.4 are MIDI CC and NRPN as modulation sources (which should mesh nicely with MPE enabled sequencers), multi-part editing and a simple arpeggiator.
After this week though, we’re taking a four week summer vacation! So we expect the first beta of 1.4 to be out in early to mid August, hopefully, and the stable version once all the features are there and there’s no known bugs left. Have a great summer everybody, and see you in August!
