Redshift 6 firmware update 1.7 is now live!
The major feature for this release is the Math page allowing you to tweak, combine and mangle modulators to create entirely new modulation possibilities. You get four math rows, each with one of the following engines:
- Use the Slew engine to slow the rate of change of any modulator
- The Curve engine can be used to shape the response curve of modulators (really useful for adjusting aftertouch response for example)
- The Fold engine allows folding excessive modulation amounts back instead of clipping them, useful for creative experiments
- Use the Quantize engine to turn any modulator into a stepped one
- One via not enough in the mod matrix? Use the MultiVia engine to add up to three more
- Using the Sample & Hold engine, you can turn any trigger source and modulator into a S&H modulator
- The Track & Modulator engine is similar to Sample & Hold, but the input is followed continuously while the control modulation source is above a set threshold
- With the Switch engine, you can select up to four modulators and switch between them using a trigger source
- Finally, the Crossfade engine is similar to Switch, but it allows using a modulation source to select and optionally interpolate between four other sources
You can even use math rows as inputs into other math rows or build feedback loops for even crazier results.
Contrary to some earlier reports, we won’t be releasing Delta Wave, our new DCO engine yet. You might have seen it referred to as Phase Sync or Phase Oscillator. The reason is that we found some new and exciting sonic possibilities that the engine is capable of and we want to give it the time, love and polish it deserves to turn it into something truly great. Current plan is to release it some time in the Autumn after our summer break. Hopefully we will also be able to get a beta out before the break!

Notes
Linux
- You might need to run the updater as sudo depending on serial port permissions
Mac
- The firmware updater will ask for permissions to access files on a removable volume, you should accept or the update will fail
- During the update, there’s going to be an eject warning that you can safely ignore
- Updating might fail intermittently because of a Mac OS driver issue, trying again should help
Windows
- Please close all software using MIDI before running the firmware updater
- After you connect the Redshift 6 to a Windows computer with USB for the first time, you might need to reboot before the firmware updater works
