Hello world! I’m Timo, the lead designer of the Redshift 6. I’ve designed most of the circuit boards, and I write most of the voice firmware from the actual synth control all the way to production testing and calibration.
This is the first in an ongoing series of blog posts giving a bit of an insight on where we’re going with the firmware development and what’s going on currently.
So, this far since the synth’s release: USB MIDI works now (except for sysex) in debug, but we’re hunting a nasty bug that only appears in the release build.
At the same time, getting the USB MIDI out to users requires adding the capability to update the USB processor firmware to the firmware updater. This is easy in principle, but we’re working on making it 100% reliable and eliminating any chance of bricking the synth even if the update is interrupted. Until this is done, we can’t release any beta versions either, which is why the first beta will take a while more.
In addition, we’ve found a few minor bugs that we’ll fix right after these.
