Dev Diary #6: Clocks and Tweaks

It’s been a while since the last Dev Diary, but that’s because we have been busy working on the next update! We have already released five beta versions of the upcoming 1.2 update and we should be done in a week or two. Once we release the final beta, there’s roughly a week-long testing period to catch any bugs we missed before we release the final update.

The most important things coming in 1.2 are full clock support, CC/NRPN editing and full revamp of knob response. Redshift 6 now has a clock that can be adjusted manually or with tap tempo, or synced to an external clock with MIDI. Right now this is only used for tempo-synced LFOs, but more possibilities will open when we add an arpeggiator, delay FX etc…

Pot scanning code has been reworked from the ground up resulting in much more responsive knobs (the “deadzone” when starting to move a knob is a fraction of what it used to be). We also added a fine tune mode allowing for super accurate parameter adjustments, for example adjusting tune by less than a cent.

We’re still working on CC/NRPN editing but it should be coming soon in a beta update. Most important parameters will get CC numbers, but since we have more parameters than available CC numbers, full editing requires NRPN. In a future update, you will also be able to use CC and NRPN a mod sources, but that didn’t make it to this update.

In addition to those big changes, we have a bunch of smaller improvements such as DCO key follow amount, mod lock for one-handed modulation assignments etc.
