Redshift 6 Firmware Update 1.4

Here’s another major update with two of the most requested features, MPE and an arpeggiator! Without further ado, you can check out detailed release notes below and grab the firmware for:

Linux

  • You might need to run the updater as sudo depending on serial port permissions

Mac

  • The firmware updater will ask for permissions to access files on a removable volume, you should accept or the update will fail
  • During the update, there’s going to be an eject warning that you can safely ignore
  • Updating might fail intermittently because of a Mac OS driver issue, trying again should help

Windows

  • After you connect the Redshift 6 to a Windows computer with USB for the first time, you might need to reboot before the firmware updater works

New Features

  • MPE
    • Settings page now has options for MPE
    • Assign MPE Timbre (CC74) modulation by holding the MIDI button
    • BREAKING: CC for Cutoff is now 79 (to avoid clash with MPE Timbre)
  • New oscillator waveform variants that reset on incoming note
  • Arpeggiator
  • Envelopes now have a Reset parameter
    • Defaults to Off for analog-style envelopes as before
  • LFOs now have a Sample & Hold waveform
  • Multi-part editing
    • Quick edit
      • Hold down one or more part buttons while turning a knob to adjust the parameter for all held parts
      • All parameters will be set to the same value, i.e. the editing is absolute, not relative
    • Latched edit
      • Hold down a part button while selecting/deselecting others by tapping them
      • Adjust parameters to edit all held & selected parts
      • Let go of all held part buttons to exit multi-edit mode
    • Tip: this is a great way to assign multiple parts to the same group
  • Load individual parts from presets
    • There’s a new control “Parts” on the Preset page
    • By default it’s set to “All” which works as before
    • Other options will load individual parts from the preset into the selected part
    • For example, “3 -> 4” means “load part 3 from the preset into part 4”
    • You change the first number (“source part”) by turning the top left knob
    • You change the second number (“target part”) by choosing a part with the 1-6 buttons
    • The result of this will be previewed as usual; press Ok to confirm
    • If you want to load multiple individual parts, you need to press Ok after each one and re-enter the Preset page
    • Enter single part load mode by holding a part button and tapping Presets
      • Parts option defaults to loading part 1 instead of all parts
      • Selected part doesn’t reset to 1 while scrolling presets

Improvements

  • New factory presets showcasing MPE, the arpeggiator and more
  • Stepped pot response is slightly less overenthusiastic now
  • Add grace period after releasing a parameter knob or Shift to prevent accidental edits
  • Preset scrolling is a lot more responsive now
    • There’s now a small delay before loading presets while scrolling
  • Filter Mode parameter now snaps to BP in addition to LP & HP
  • LFO range is now 0.01-1000Hz, up from 0.1-100Hz
    • Note that might slightly change the sound of presets using audio rate LFOs
  • BREAKING: Cutoff CC now controls the full cutoff range
  • When holding ENV + LFO, ENV now becomes the via
  • Minor visual tweaks and fixes

Fixes

  • Correctly follow external clock when looping
  • LFO synced to a source would not sync others correctly
    • For example LFO1 synced to LFO2 synced to clock wouldn’t work correctly
  • Tap tempo works without Shift pressed again
  • Illuminate Parts button when Shift is held
  • Occasional crash when loading presets with reserved voices
  • Env amount bar on VCF page is now bipolar
  • Buttons sometimes got stuck when loading or initializing preset
  • Stepped adjust now works again when assigning modulation
